Commodity Taxes
The Goods and Services Tax (GST) applies directly or indirectly to every taxpayer in Canada. The GST is, in theory, a simple tax if you are a registrant involved in the provision of taxable supplies. However, in practice, the GST can be rather complex. The complexity of the legislation can lead to unpleasant surprises for taxpayers that are either unaware, out of date or have not taken their compliance responsibilities seriously. Take, for example, the case of a corporate director of a now bankrupt corporation who now faces a personal assessment for GST funds not remitted during his tenure.
Often by proper planning, problems may be avoided. We have the expertise to help with any GST or retail sales tax problems you may encounter.
